The Shape Of a Mother’s Love

Mothers can come in all shapes and sizes. Besides biological moms, we can have stepmothers, grandmothers who raise their grandchildren as their own, adopted mothers and all sorts of other motherly figures in our lives. The common denominator between all of these moms and mother figures is that they love their children as their own and they don’t stop caring just because they grow up. A mother‘s heart is full because of her children, so when a child is lost there is a mother-shaped hole in her heart that is never truly filled again. That loss will go with her for the rest of her life.
When Christine Olson lost her daughter, Tiffiany, the pain was unbearable, as anyone can imagine. But there was also an injustice in the fact that she did not know where her daughter was or if she was even alive for hours before finding out the truth. This was unacceptable to Christine. She has worked tirelessly in her daughter’s honor to keep other mothers from going through what she went through. We can’t stop anyone from losing their child, but we can make sure that in the event of an emergency, mothers will know where their children are immediately.
They say that when you’re a mother, having children means having pieces of your heart go walking around outside of your body. As they get older, they walk further and further away and this letting go can be a very difficult time for moms. But it doesn’t have to be. Cover them in prayer, then cover your bases with an emergency contact system in which you can be as informed and prepared as possible for when your children are away from you.
This year for Mother’s Day, we encourage you to give your mom the gift of that knowledge- the gift of security- by registering yourself and your family with TIFF. If you are a father or husband looking for the perfect Mother’s Day present, have your children and yourself registered with TIFF as a gift for mom this year. Wrap your arms around all the moms in your life on Mother’s Day. Let them know that you do truly care because you understand how much they care about you.
This is a wonderful opportunity to do your due diligence but also make sure mom knows that you understand the size and scope of her love for you. Moms need to know where their children are, and that in the event of emergency they will contact her immediately. At TIFF’s Initiative, we understand the special relationship between mothers and their children. We want to honor all mothers this Mother’s Day and arm them with the knowledge that their children are okay and they’ll know as soon as they’re not. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms and mother figures who care for their children in a million ways.
